CAD drawing release checklist

A repeatable review begins with the right files and ends with a clear record of what still needs a decision.

This is a general workflow aid from the DraftVerge product team. Adapt it with a qualified reviewer and your own release standard; it is not an engineering or regulatory checklist.

  1. Identify the release. Record the drawing identifier, sheet, revision, issue purpose and applicable standard. Confirm the intended baseline and revised files rather than relying on filenames alone.
  2. Check title-block details. Confirm required attributes against the team's approved schema. Verify that dates, revision labels and issue status agree with the release register. The required fields differ between teams.
  3. Resolve referenced content. In CAD, check external drawings, images and fonts. Review missing or stale references before producing the release package. A standalone export does not prove that referenced content was reviewed.
  4. Confirm units and coordinates. Inspect units, origin and orientation before comparing views. A visual mismatch can result from an export or coordinate change rather than an intended design revision.
  5. Review changes in context. Inspect the changed object, surrounding geometry and affected sheets. Re-exporting can change object identifiers; candidate counts are not proof of geometric changes.
  6. Verify findings in CAD. Separate confirmed issues, explained exceptions and unresolved items. Keep the evidence and rationale with each decision.
  7. Prepare the recipient's handoff. Include drawing identities, the applied standard, unresolved findings and reviewer notes. Make clear which checks were performed and which checks were outside scope.
  8. Complete the required sign-off. Follow the organization's release authority and engineering review process. An automated report does not replace it.

What DraftVerge can help organize

The ASCII DXF prototype checks required title-block attributes and selected reference conditions, identifies candidate revision changes and exports reviewer notes. It does not evaluate design correctness or referenced drawing contents.
